Thomas
Walker, MA is a diversity educator committed
to improving intergroup relations through advocacy, awareness-raising,
dialogue, and cooperative action. He has been involved in prejudice-reduction
work for more than a decade, with groups including the National
Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), the National Coalition-Building
Institute (NCBI) and the New Orleans'-based Southern Institute
for Education and Research. In the training setting, he was worked
with the numerous major universities, the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture,
National Mortar Board Honor Society, and presented at several
national conferences. With particular interests in language and
power, young adult education and often-overlooked 'invisible'
targeted groups, his degrees and experience in interpersonal,
group, and intercultural communication also encourage
and allow him to work with people from virtually any background
and in virtually any setting.
He currently serves as a program coordinator and
trainer at the one-of-a-kind Intergroup Relations Center at Arizona
State University, where he is also pursuing his doctorate. Thomas
is originally from Dauphin Island, Alabama, has visited 28 US
states and 15 countries.
